How to obtain a Pro Bono Attorney

Quick tips for obtaining a Pro Bono Attorney;

- Before anything, make sure you have the exact criminal case number for your loved one. This can be found by contacting the Criminal Clerk’s Office in the arresting county.

- Obtain the complete file before reaching out to Pro Bono Attorney:

Obtain Trial File: Usually obtained from the trail attorney and should contain every document during the arrest and trial phase.

- Obtain Appeal File: If your loved one has already appealed his or her case, you can get this from the Appellate Attorney. This file should contain every document during the arrest, trial phase and appeal documents/filings.

- Freedom of Information Request (FOIA): A public request for every agency involved with the investigation or arrest. For example, you would file one with the police department in the county of arrest. For more information on FOIA: https://www.foia.gov/how-to.html

- Trial Transcript: Normally a copy of the trial and appeal (if any) are included in the Trial File or Appeal File. If not, you can get a copy from the Criminal Clerk of Court in the arresting county. Be aware, there’s a per page charge for copies. However, you can apply for a fee waiver. Just inquiry with the Clerk’s office.

REMEMBER, NEVER SEND ORIGINALS TO ANYONE.
